Authentic Sri Lankan Prawn Curry: The Rich & Aromatic Recipe

Authentic Eastern Prawn Masla is a delicious East Sri Lankan Prawn Curry. This is a coconut-based and mildly spiced curry. The Prawn Masala is a simple a dish made with spices and vegetables. It is cooked with prawns, coconut milk, potato, tomato, onion, ginger, garlic, and so on to make the mouth watering masala. The estimated cooking time is just 50 minutes.

Having grown up in an island with ready access to seafood, I’ve eaten shrimp often and in many different ways, but never in a more deeply flavorful and aromatic way than this authentic Sri Lankan Prawn Curry.

Ingredients:

Prawn (Large) - 10
Chili Powder - 3 Tablespoons
Curry Leaves 
Chopped Big Onion  - 2
Cumin Seeds - 2 Teaspoons
Ginger-Garlic Paste - 1 Tablespoon
Chopped Tomatoes - 2 (Big Sized)
Coconut Milk - 1 Cup
Chopped Potatoes - 2
Coconut Oil - 2 Tablespoons
Salt to Taste
Heat the pan and pour coconut oil at optimum heat. At low flame wait a minute and then mix curry leaves and cumin seeds, season well.
Add chopped onions and continue seasoning...
After 10 minutes add potatoes and continue seasoning...
Then add chopped tomatoes and salt; continue seasoning...
Add the chili powder, continue seasoning...
Now add coconut milk and leave mixture to cook well. After 20 minutes check the taste of salt, add salt if needed.
Then add prawns into the mixture, let them cooked for 5-8 minutes.
When the prawns get golden brown color, mix the prawns with the vegetable mixture and let it cooked for another 15 minutes.
Then add some coconut oil in the edge of the pan.
Add ginger-garlic paste and cumin seeds in the edge of the pan where poured coconut oil.
Add some curry leaves and close the lid, let them seasoned. While seasoning you will smell a nice aroma from the mixture. After 5 minutes open the lid and mix them well. That’s all, Now your yummy authentic Eastern Prawn Masala is ready for the dinner!!!
