Raw Banana Fry: Authentic East Sri Lankan Snack

Raw Banana fry recipe made in East Sri Lankan Style is one of the easiest and yummy recipe ever! Raw Banana is used as a vegetable in the region for Making Bajji (Fry), Snack, Curry, Stew, Kofta, Kaliya and Stir Fry or Roast. They are good source of nutrients containing many minerals and vitamins.

Raw Banana Fry or කෙසෙල් ෆ්රයි or வாழைக்காய் பஜ்ஜி is the most favorite snack of children. Banana is a good source of calcium, iron and vitamins. This recipe gives you a good combination of health and taste.

The simple Raw Banana Fry can be made in so many ways, the recipe I’m sharing today is different from the Indian Cuisine. To make this delicious mildly hot and spicy raw banana fry we don’t need any special ingredients. But the method of frying them is a bit unique which lends a great flavor and taste to the raw banana.

Ingredients:

  • Raw Banana - 5 (250g)
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 Table Spoon
  • Chili Powder - 1 Table Spoon
  • Gram Flour - 1 Cup (you may use wheat flour as alternative)
  • Rice Flour 0.5 Cup
  • Baking Soda - Small Pinch
  • Salt to Taste

1. Peel the banana skin and cut them into slices.
2. Take a bowl. Fill it with water and pour 1 tea spoon of salt and mix well. Soak the banana slices in the the water.

3. Mix wheat flour with cumin seeds, salt, rice flour, baking soda and chili powder. If you are making this snack for kids you may add turmeric powder instead of chili powder and may add small pinch of pepper powder.
4. Add water little by little and mix well. Don’t make the mixture too watery. Leave it for 15 minutes.
5. Take the banana slices from the salt water and dip it in the flour mixture as shown.
6. Heat the pan and pour coconut oil. Deep fry dipped banana slices in low flame for 5 minutes. Rotate the banana slices up and down for every two minutes until the they turn into golden brown color.
Now the Authentic East Sri Lankan Raw Banana Fry is ready to serve! You may add with tomato or chili sauce! 😋
