Tomato Chutney: A Tempering Sauce with Spicy Masala

Tomato Chutney is a tangy and tasty South Indian recipe made from tomatoes, herbs and spices. There are many variations of making tomato chutney aka Thakkali chutney in Regional Indian Cuisine. Here we are sharing the Chutney with Spicy Masala. The versions of tomato chutney taste good and go well with South Indian Snacks like Idli, Dosa, Vada or Uttapam.

Tomato chutney is a very good companion to accompany with traditional breakfasts like Idli, Dosa, Vada, Nan etc. Tomato chutney is a basic condiment made with tomatoes and spices. Organic Kitchen’s traditional house have a different recipe made to suit best taste and liking. Traditionally tomato chutney was made by crushing tomatoes, black pepper, dried chilies, cumin, mustard, curry leaves and salt in a mortar pestle.

Ingredients:

1. Curry Leaves
2. Dried Chili
3. Chopped Big Onion - 1
4: Mustard - 2 tea spoon
5. Coconut Oil - 2 table spoon
6. Black Pepper - 2 table spoon
7. Chopped Tomatoes - 4
8. Cumin Seeds - 1 tea spoon
Pour and heat 1 table spoon of oil in a pan on medium flame. Once the oil gets optimum heat add mustard and season for 2-3 minutes.
Add chopped onion and season for 3 minutes.
Add curry leaves and continue seasoning.
Add dried chili and continue seasoning.
Add 1 tea spoon of black pepper and season well.
Add chopped tomatoes and add some salt to taste. Season until the tomatoes cooked well. Turn off the cooker and leave it for 15 minutes.
Transfer the seasoned mixture into a grinding gar.
Grind it for 3-4 minutes.
Again heat the pan with one table spoon of coconut oil. Add some cumin seeds and curry leaves. Pour the mixture into it.
Stir the mixture in medium flame for 5 minutes.
Now the Organic Kitchen’s tomato chutney ready to serve 🍅 You may add Dosa, Vada, Nan, Idli etc. with the menu.
